Yin Yoga is a profound yet subtle practice that invites you to slow down and turn inward. In this style, seated or supine postures are held for 3–10 minutes, allowing the breath to reach the deeper layers of the body—connective tissue, ligaments, joints, fascia and bones. Yin yoga and restorative yoga are often used interchangeably, though they are distinctly different. Yin asks us to stay present with sensation, to breathe into the “stuck” places, and to gently coax them open with patience and attention. This practice offers a powerful counterbalance to the more active (yang) postures found in hatha and vinyasa classes, restoring balance and resilience where it is often hardest to access.
